Applications for SPE QLD 2016 Scholarships - CLOSED

The Queensland Section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE Qld) has a tradition of providing scholarships to support university students in Queensland who are specialising in fields of study that will lead to a professional career in Petroleum Engineering.

This year the Section will fund up to three scholarships for undergraduate students and up to three scholarships for post-graduate students, each worth $1,500. 

The program is aimed at engineering students (in all years) interested in pursuing a career in Petroleum Engineering or other oil and gas related profession.

 Eligibility

                -        Student members of the SPE currently enrolled in full time academic study

                -       Student must be an Australian citizen or have permanent residency.

                -      Preference given to students pursuing a career in Petroleum Engineering.

                -        Previous SPE Qld award winners are still eligible to apply.

 

Application Process

To apply for the SPE Qld Scholarship simply download and fill out the application form for the undergraduate scholarship or the post-graduate scholarship.

Gus Archie Scholarship Program – Open

The Gus Archie Memorial Scholarship is supported by the Archie Fund of the SPE Foundation and awards an outstanding student who plans to enter a university and pursue an undergraduate degree in petroleum engineering.

The student will receive $6,000 per year for up to four years of university study.

      

Eligibility

This is a merit based scholarship. Recipients are typically in the top 3% in both class ranking and standardized test scores.

  • Must intend to enroll in petroleum engineering in a recognized university program according to your country or region, leading to an undergraduate degree in petroleum engineering
  • Must become an SPE member once eligible
  • Comply with sanction policy
  • Complete the electronic submission process

If awarded, each semester, you must:

  • Be enrolled in a petroleum engineering class by the beginning of the second year of university
  • Remain in petroleum engineering degree program
  • Maintain at least 2/3 of a full academic load
  • Have and maintain a satisfactory average of scores/marks for the current semester and cumulative total

  • You must submit at least one recommendation and documentation for entry exams (if applicable).

 


 

Nico van Wingen Memorial Graduate Fellowship – NOW OPEN

The Nico van Wingen Memorial Graduate Fellowship in Petroleum Engineering is supported by the Nico van Wingen fund of the SPE Foundation.

All award recipients are nominated by the SPE Student Chapter Faculty Advisor or Department Chair. Up to two awards are given in the amount of USD 5,000 each per year.

 

Eligibility

  • Must be an SPE member at an official student chapter
  • Must be at the Ph.D. level
  • Must intend to pursue a career in academia
  • If awarded, recipients must submit annual confirmation from advisor showing progress and a justification for renewal.
  • Comply with sanction policy

 

To nominate

SPE Student Chapter Faculty Advisor or Department Chair must:

  • Submit your nomination by filling out the online nomination form. After completing the nomination form, you will receive an electronic confirmation. Your nominee will be contacted by email with a link to complete an online application.

 

The nominee must:

  • Use the link provided in the email to complete and submit the online application.
  • Gather, scan and upload official transcripts for all institutions attended, two letters of recommendation and a resume.
  • Submit all documents electronically by 15 April.

 


 Star Scholarship and Fellowship – OPEN

The Star scholarships and fellowships support those pursuing degrees related to the oil and gas industry until completion of the degree for which awarded, up to a maximum of four years. SPE dedicates more than one million dollars to be awarded by our 16 regions.

 

Eligibility

  • Must be a student enrolled, or soon to be enrolled, in curriculum related to the petroleum industry
  • Must be an SPE member, if eligible
  • Must be enrolled the year following the application year
  • Comply with sanction policy
  • Complete the electronic submission process

*If awarded, you must meet eligibility requirements to maintain your scholarship or fellowship.

All award funding will be distributed in December each year.

 


  

Henry DeWitt Smith Memorial Fellowship – OPEN

Henry DeWitt Smith’s example of inspired leadership, professional success, personal integrity, and boundless dedication was his heritage to the mining industry—which he served all of his adult life. His wife, Ellen Burke Smith, created the Henry DeWitt Smith Fellowship in his memory.

 

Eligibility

  • Must be pursuing a graduate degree (master’s or PhD) in petroleum engineering or a related field
  • Must be an SPE member
  • Comply with sanction policy
  • Complete the electronic submission process
