The Student Chapter at UQ reaches Gold Standard - again!

UQ SPE Chapter was awarded the Gold Standard for the 2nd year in a row for excellent engagement.  Well done!

The Student Chapter at UQ reaches Gold Standard!

The University of Queensland Student Chapter has been awarded the Gold Standard designation for 2016 in recognition of its exceptional programs in industry engagement, operations and planning, community involvement, professional development and innovation. The University Of Queensland Society Of Petroleum Engineers is an Outstanding Student Chapter. In the last year it has organised a networking event with the highest attendance and ratio of industry representatives to students from all other engineering student societies. The event brought together 60 industry members from 24 different companies and 100 students. The theme of the event was “Where the energy industry can take you”. This year the theme is “Delivering Affordable Energy”. The UQ SPE committee has been the first SPE student chapter in Australia to plan a trip to China for five deserving students to attend international SPE competition. The team of students who attended this event achieved third place out of 22 international universities. The student chapter aims to engage students by facilitating an annual student field trip to the Brisbane Offices and in Roma during the Semester break. Students were able to visit Santos, Origin Energy, Schlumberger and QGC/Shell.  To do this the student chapter had to constantly engage with the SPE section board, young professionals in the industry and faculty members.
